Company History

1860's...

Hugh Hall, the present Chairman's Great Great Grandfather starts building houses in the Holderness area of East Yorkshire.

1880's...

1887 - Francis Hall, the present Chairman's Great Grandfather founds the Company as F Hall Builders. Initially involved in constructing large houses in the Pearson Park area of Hull.

1900's...

1902 - Francis is joined by the first of four sons, Frank, and the business starts to expand.

1918 - Only two of the four sons survive the Great War. Charles and Reginald join the Company, after service on the Western Front.

1920's - Large education schemes built such as the Endsleigh Convent in Hull.

1930's - Airfields and hangars constructed at Brough, Sherburn in Elmet and Arbroath in Scotland were constructed in the run up to the Second World War. Civil Engineering works included the Water Towers at Hornsea, Swanland and Spaldington, which are still in use today.

1940's...

1946 - John Hall, present Chairman's father, joins the Company after service in the Army in the Far East during the Second World War.

1948 - F Hall & Sons is incorporated as a Limited Company specialising in Industrial, Commercial and Local Authority building works. Civil Engineering accounted for approximately 30% of the business.

1950's...

Heavily involved in the rebuilding of Hull with new roads and sewer complexes. Schools at Kelvin Hall, Wyke, Hull Grammar School and St Mary's College.

1960's...

1962 - Plant Hire Division formed as Yorkshire Plant (Humber) Limited.

1968 - Joinery business E Batty (Contractors) Ltd was bought and added to the Group, in order to ensure an even better service to our customers.

1970's...

Group continues to flourish with a move into their present premises at Clay Street, Hull. Office blocks, steel framed industrial buildings and works for the NHS helped the business expand.

1980's...

1987 - The present Chairman, Martin Hall, joins the business after 11 years of Commissioned Service in the British Army, during which time he also studied Civil Engineering.

1990's...

A Building Services Division, Flooring Division and Plumbing Division started within the Group to enable us to give our clients a complete service on projects up to £6.0m in value.

2000's...

2001 - F. Hall & Sons changes name to Hall Construction Group Ltd, which now consists of the six divisions which are featured on this website.

2005 - Batty Joinery Manufacturers moves into a larger, 36,000 ft sq workshop, to help provide a more efficient service.

2006 - The Hall Construction Group continues to flourish concentrating on partnership arrangements and framework agreements across all six divisions operating mainly within a 70 mile radius of Hull but with a capability to work further afield with our partnered clients. 2007 - A Special Projects Division was formed within the Group to enable us to undertake works not specifically designated to our existing divisions.
